Nominees for Astaire
Awards Announced

The Astaire Awards, named for
stage and screen hoofer Fred Astaire, annually celebrate the best dancing on
Broadway. With a wide array to choose from, this year marks the first time in the 19 year
history of the awards that they have been expanded to include nominees. Previously, only
one awardee had been named in each category. The awards will be presented on May 18 at the
Hudson Theatre on West 44th Street.
Contact tops the list with four nominations, followed by Kiss Me, Kate with
three; The Music Man with two and Swing! with one nomination. The

Though the nominees for were selected from this past season's thirteen Broadway shows that
include dance, they overlooked performers in dance-heavy shows such as Riverdance on
Broadway, Saturday Night Fever and Swing!.
