Ann Hampton Callaway To
Sing in Seattle, Jan. 20-25
Playbill Online
20-JAN-1998
You can count on one hand
the number of popular cabaret divas to play Seattle in recent years.
Andrea Marcovicci has come
twice, both times for one-night-only benefits for Intiman Theatre, and Eartha Kitt plays
an annual booking at Jazz Alley.
But Puget Sound is perhaps
best acquainted with Ann Hampton Callaway, who for three years has appeared under the
auspices of Seattle Men's Chorus at University of Washington's mammoth Meany Hall.
This year, Callaway will be
showcased in an environment that's more up her alley (and similar to the clubs she plays
in Manhattan) -- Dimitriou's Jazz Alley Restaurant and Nightclub, for a six-night stint,
Jan. 20-25.
Callaway, who has two new
CDs, was last seen in Seattle a year ago at Meany Theatre with her sister, Broadway star
Liz Callaway, in their show Sibling Revelry.
Ann's vocals and
song-writing skills are on display during the opening credits for TV's "The Nanny,'
and she is enjoying wide exposure for her song "At The Same Time" -- which is
featured on Barbra Streisand's new CD, "Higher Ground" (and which Streisand
performed for President Clinton in Los Angeles).
Show times are Tues.-Thu.
and Sun at 8 and 9:30 PM, and Fri.-Sat at 8:30 and 10:30 PM. Dimitriou's Jazz Alley is
located at 2033 6th Ave., in downtown Seattle. For reservations, call (206) 441-9729.
